We have successfully grown companies as entrepreneurs and investors for more than 10 years. We have raised a total of approximately €180 million in funding, successfully exited investments and our own companies, but most importantly - we still enjoy the beating of the entrepeurial heart and we work hard to get things done.
Alexander Bigge Lidgren is Cleantech Invest’s CEO since January 1, 2015. Previously, he was managing the cleantech portfolio at the Swedish Energy Agency. He has an entrepenurial background having founded Cleantech Scandinavia and Nordic Cleantech Open where he was also the managing director. Among his previous ventures are Bokks, a broadband technology company exited to a stock listed company, and Big Bear, cafe, gallery and store in central Lund (still around, go there for good coffee). By education, Bigge is a M.Sc. (Environmental Management and Policy) and Ba.Sc (Business Administration and Marketing).
Partner, Chairman of the board
Lassi Noponen has been a member of the Board since February 2010 and its chairman since November 2010. In addition, Mr. Noponen has been a member of the Board of Directors of Incap Oyj since 2009 and its chairman since 2013. Earlier he was Managing Director of Proventia Group Oy 2000–2006 and one of Proventia Group Oy’s founders. His previous posts include partner and director responsible for mergers and acquisitions at Evli Corporate Finance Oy 1999–2000, and before that, several management posts at Neste Corporation 1992–1999, most recently as Corporate Controller. By education, Mr. Noponen is a Master of Law and M.Sc. (Mgmt) from London Business School.
Tarja Teppo is the co-founder of Cleantech Invest and has worked in the venture capital are since 1999. Prior to Cleantech Invest starting its own investment activities in 2009 she worked as an advisor for institutional and industrial investors in cleantech related investments since the founding of Cleantech Invest in 2005. She worked at the Environmental Management unit of the Helsinki University of Technology 2002–2005, and prior to that, at the Nokia Group in product development, and as Director of the Nokia Ventures Organization unit in Finland and the US 1997–2002. Ms. Teppo holds M.Sc. (Technology) and D.Sc. (Technology) degrees.
Timo Linnainmaa is the co-founder of Cleantech Invest and has worked in the cleantech area since 2002, both as an advisor and investor. Timo was Cleantech Invest’s President and CEO 2005–2010. Prior to that, he was a Director of the Environmental Management unit of the Helsinki University of Technology 2002–2005. By education, Timo is a M.Sc. (Technology).
After a decade of service as the CEO of VARMA Mutual Pension Insurance Company Matti Vuoria retired in 2014. He is currently Chairman of the Board at YIT Oyj. His previous board positions include Stora Enso Oyj, Wartsilä Oyj, Sampo Oyj, Orion Oyj and Danisco (Denmark) as well as Nordic Investment Bank. He was the full-time Chairman of Fortum Oyj for five years during 1998-2003. Matti Vuoria is a member of the Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences.
James Penney is the Chairman of London based Darwin Property Investment Management Limited and chairs the Investment Committee. In 2015 Darwin Property Investment Management Limited was named ‘Alternative Investment Manager of the Year’ at European Pension Awards and ‘Alternatives Manager of the Year’ by LAPF Investment Awards. James Penney is also the owner and MD of Darwin Consulting. Prior to founding Darwin Consulting, James Penney had an academic career including undergraduate and doctoral studies at Trinity College, Cambridge, as Principal Lecturer at Westminster College, Oxford and as a Sloan Fellow at London Business School from which he has a M.Sc. in Management Studies.
Peter Carlsson is an angel investor, advisor and entrepreneur. He was the Vice President, Supply Chain of the world-renowned Electric Vehicle company Tesla Motors during 2011–2015. Before Tesla he worked as the Senior Vice President & Chief Procurement Officer of NXP Semiconductors in Singapore and as the Chief Procurement Officer of Sony-Ericsson. Peter Carlsson has a M.Sc. (Economics, Production & Quality Control) from Luleå Technical University.
Board Member, Vice Chairman
Thomas Bengtsson has been a member of the board since 2015. Thomas has a strong belief in the transition to a low carbon and more sustainable economy through technological development. His own company AB Pelarsalen produces electricity from wind-power. Thomas has a broad venture-capital knowledge and has as a senior advisor to the Swedish Ministry of Enterprise established several investment-companies and programmes to support early stage investments. Thomas was until 2015, for four years, the vice chairman of the board of Industrifonden and has also served as a member of the board of Almi and been chairman of the board of Inlandsinnovation AB. Previously Thomas has worked internationally as an expert for the European Commission in Brussels. M.Sc Economics from University of Lund, executive education in Corporate finance from IFL, Stockholm School of Economics.
Gudrun Giddings (Beverly Hills, California) has more than 20 years of experience in different capacities within entertainment industry in Hollywood. She is the CEO and producer at G4C Innovation and is a Co-founder of Entertainment Capital Network as well as the U.S. Ambassador for Scandinavian Film Locations. Gudrun serves on the Board of Directors for Mentor Foundation USA, founded by H.M. Queen Silva of Sweden and the World Health Organization. She is also a Board Member of Swedish American Chamber of Commerce USA and is the President and Chair of The Swedish American Chamber of Commerce-Los Angeles. Gudrun previously served as a Producer and Vice President of Production at Paradox Entertainment. Before joining Paradox, Gudrun was the Director of Production for Davis Films, under the distribution company Metropolitan Filmexport.
